How do Fitness and Skating go together? Marvelously. Part and parcel of our philosophy is that Skating can be fitness and since skating can be done for a lifetime, you can stay fit for a lifetime. Fitness improves the quality of our lives and as such we sprinkle it around all our courses. We support fitness skating in a variety of ways, including a free weekly fitness class. Yes indeed, we believe fitness and skating go together:

Fitness is a key component of our philosophy and we've got the following classes devoted to various aspects of getting fit and skating:

Basic Fitness courses offered are: Skate To Ski Conditioning, 50 Hour Club, 1000 Mile Club, Roller Fitness, FITness Inline Training (FIT Team), and Indoor Race.

Skate to Ski Conditioning

Skate to Ski conditioning is offered in the Fall. This skating class includes a workout on a slight incline to improve your cardiovascular system and mimics the ski hill. A variety of moves will be taught and practiced to improve your balance while skiing.

50 Hour Challenge

During the Fall, Winter and Spring we track our time on skates indoors. It's just fun and a way to insure we're fit.

1000 Mile Club

For those that love the challenge and are simply junkies, we offer an interactive website which keeps track of your miles for you so you can shoot for the goal of 1000 miles in a year. It's not for everyone, but its really fun to watch our colleagues get in tons of miles. Miles add up and it is just the reason to offer this club.

Skate Team

Skate Team is a series of classes for a group of skaters who want to work on their artisitic technique. Like the Fit Team they enjoy reduced classes, classes built just for them to insure they improve over the winter and are ready to go skate outside with better balance, technique and fitness.

Fitness Moves

A series of combinations for the more intermediate to advanced skaters. They are currently more artisic than fitness, but they change from time to time, so keep checking on them.

Here are various aspects of Skating and Fitness:

Roller Fitness Class

Skate Journeys Skate School offers a weekly Roller Fitness Class. It's a chance to better your balance, increase your cardiovascular fitness, develop your skating muscles and have fun as you go round and round and round. You go at your own speed, so you don't have to be fit to join us, but be careful, you could get fit and have fun along the way.

Fitness Inline Training (FIT Team Training)

This is our Marathon Training Course which starts the last Wednesday of March and continues on for 10 weeks. See Marathon Training for complete details.

Indoor Race Clinics

We will be offering for the fourth year a popular series of an Introduction to Indoor Speed skating. We usually offer three classes in a row so you can get the basics down for indoor speed skating. A variety of area rinks offer weekly workouts, and this introductory course offers you a chance to learn this discipline and to get and stay fit during the winter while skating.

Skate Journeys offers classes in Seattle and Bellevue. Contact Trish for details. Email to register today.
